The oceanic whitetip shark...
... (Carcharhinus longimanus) has given this webpage its name.
It provides information on this specific shark species, on the layout and
the methods of a study I initiated in October 2004, and - most of all -
invites you to take part and contribute.
Centre piece of this project is an individual catalogue of Oceanic Whitetip
Sharks, that was assembled with the help of photographs & videos taken
by divers & snorkelers visiting the Egyptian Red Sea over the last six
years.
Heading into the seventh year of documenting the presence of oceanics, I am
still working on broadening the database by collecting as many underwater
pictures of this shark species as I possibly can...

What exactly I do with all these photographs, and what additional information
I would need you to provide with them, you can read about in THE PROJECT-section.
To find the most convenient method for you (and the amount or format of
picture(s) you want to send...) please click on the CONTACT-section of the
menu bar.
A large number of people helped create the present database with their
contributions, either in the form of pictures or by helping me to spread
the word within the diving community. Thank you very much for your support!
I hope, you especially will enjoy this webpage.

DATABASE
Everybody, who contributed any images or videos to the project under his/her full name, can now follow the sighting history of "their" sharks by logging on to the database! By selecting your name, a list of the individuals identified from your photographs will come up, and after choosing single individuals, a list of all sightings will come up in a table, followed by a small map of the Egyptian Red Sea and markers of where these individuals were seen!
